Egalitarianism is a useless ideology that panders to the idea that racism. homophobia, and sexism are over when they’re not, not even by a long shot. Egalitarians pride themselves in thinking everyone is equal despite not doing anything about social injustice. As long as racism, sexism, and homophobia are still rampant in society, simply thinking everyone is equal will accomplish nothing.

What’s happening in Brazil right now.

The protest started in São Paulo when the bus fare increased. The people took the streets to show that they didn’t want to pay more for a service that never improves. But now, everyone feels that it’s the time to fight for everything that haven’t been working for a while. The people are tired of paying taxes and having shitty services in return. They are tired of having to pay private schools because the public ones are in such bad shape, with teachers so poorly paid they have to work in 2 or 3 different places to make some decent money. They are tired of having to pay for private health because people are dying in the hallways of the public hospitals with not enough doctors or beds for all. They are tired of a bad managed public transportation system with almost no bicycle routes, not enough rail transport and mostly in the hands of a few companies that only want to increase their profit but not the quality of service. They are tired of walking down the streets with an increasing feeling of fear.

The people are tired of having to deal with really awful services everyday while so much money is invested to build stadiums for the World Cup and the Olympics.

After what happened in São Paulo, many other cities have started their own protests. Let’s hope this is the beginning of a change in the country.
